Maggie Chen was a former employee of the people who created the clones. After being assigned to the Proletheans, she saw the error of her ways and decided to join them instead, and continued to act as a double agent at the Dyad Institute. Eventually, she left for good. At one point, she and Tomas found Helena, a clone whom they trained to hunt down and kill other clones. Eventually, she was accidentally shot by the police detective Elizabeth Childs attempting to escape some members of Neolution.
To those not aware of the clones, however, she was just a civilian who was accidentally shot by Beth while in pursuit of a criminal. The cover story was that Beth was apparently canvassing witnesses for "The Ramsay thing", the Sun Jewelry heist, when she saw Xan Yip, wanted for U.S. racketeering. When she called for Yip, she ran, so Beth chased her down with her weapon drawn. Then, Maggie Chen apparently came from behind her and she fired twice, mistaking her for Xan Yip, as both Asian women were wearing black. Panicked, Beth called Art before calling it in, so Art planted the phone in her hand to make it look like Beth thought the woman was holding a gun, so that no one would find out that Beth was high on pills that day.
